Lurgashall summerhouse featuring two bifold door sets by Exact Architectural Glazing

As well as new builds, renovations and extensions, our architectural glazing is often in demand for unique builds like this summerhouse in Lurgashall, West Sussex.

Partnering with South Downs Construction

Following a recommendation from Midhurst-based construction company South Downs Construction, we worked with our client to design and specify the glazed doors for their new summerhouse.

Following the Initial Project Consultation to understand the requirements of the project, our clients visited our Liphook showroom to see our glazed door range in real life. Initially, sliding doors were specified, however, during our discussions it became clear that two sets of bifold doors would provide a superior glazed installation; allowing two sides of the summer house to be completely opened, for uninterrupted access and views.

Specifying bifold doors

When researching glazed doors for a project, there are many elements to consider such as - what type of access would you like? How wide is the opening? What kind of view would you like to achieve with the doors open and closed? What threshold is required?  What is your budget?

During your Initial Project Consultation, our glazing experts will take the time to fully understand your project to ensure we can provide you with the right glazing solutions. Bifold doors are an incredibly versatile glazed door solution. If you are considering bifold doors for your next project, read our recent article to find out more.

Configuring bifold doors

Two sets of bifold door are featured within the summerhouse; a 6-pane set, and a 3-pane set.

The 5474mm x 2115mm set are specified in a split-stack configuration, with a central opening and 3 panes folding to each side. The other 3567mm x 2115mm set is a traditional outward opening stack, which includes a traffic door. A traffic door or lead door allows for the single door to be used for easy access when opening the full bifold isn’t needed.

Glass specifications for bifold doors

For this project, to meet stringent planning requirements, solar-control glass is featured. Solar-control glass provides excellent thermal and solar performance, as well as high light transmission to ensure the summerhouse is light and airy throughout the year. During the specification process, the full glass specification for your doors, roof glazing, windows and entrance doors will be discussed and agreed to meet the requirements of the project.
